The Matildas' mission to win gold at the Paris Olympics has got off to a tough start with the news that they've been drawn in a group including top-five-ranked teams America and Germany. 

Vice-captain Emily Van Egmond says the fact England missed the Olympics shows how tough the competition in Paris will be.

The Matildas have avoided the reigning Olympic champions and World Cup winners but will face a USA outfit looking for redemption in their quest to claim their first Games medal in Paris.

In the unlikely event Sam Kerr recovers from her knee injury in time to play, that could pit her against her American fiancee Kristie Mewis.
