Hobart Hurricanes player Nikhil Chaudhary has been accused of one count of rape after it was alleged he raped a woman in his car after meeting her at a nightclub on the Townsville strip. Chaudhary has pleaded not guilty to the charge. Crown prosecutor Shannon Sutherland called the mother of the alleged victim to the stand for witness testimony about the evening the alleged offence occurred. She said she had gone to bed at 11.30pm on the night in question and missed a phone call from her daughter at 3.11am, minutes after the alleged rape occurred. The court learnt that the mother got in touch with her daughter at 3.53am. The mother of an alleged rape victim has given evidence at the trial surrounding cricket star Nikhil Chaudhary 'I couldn't hear much because she was crying, she sounded upset,' the mother said via the Townsville Bulletin. 'I asked her why she was crying and she said she might be going to court. 'She told me she met this guy at the nightclub, they hung out for a bit and she mentioned she went out of the club with him and got into the car with him.' Under cross examination from defence barrister Claire Grant, the mother was asked if her daughter told her the man had 'tried' to touch her. 'She told you that he was all over her and that she told him to let her out of the car and at that time he started touching her,' Ms Grant said. 'I said did he touch you? And she said yes he tried,' the mother replied. Nicole Aitkins, a forensic examiner, was called to the stand to provide her expertise on the woman's injury on the night of the alleged rape. She said she had found a 1cm by 1cm abrasion to the woman's genitalia and said it could have been caused by a finger, although she could not say conclusively that it was caused by the defendant. The Hobart Hurricanes player denies raping a woman in his vehicle in Townsville 'You are not in a position to conclusively say what caused the abrasion you observed?' Ms Grant asked. Ms Aitkins replied, 'No'. 'With the history that was provided to me from (the woman), it's a possible cause for the injury that was there that I'd seen,' Ms Atkins said. Constable Alexandra Smith also provided evidence, having interviewed the alleged victim after the alleged incident. 'She didn't appear under the influence,' the constable said. 'She was coherent and walking fine and speaking fine and didn't appear to be affected by alcohol. 'She told me she had been inside a vehicle with a man and that the man sexually assaulted her.' The prosecution's evidence concluded on Tuesday afternoon and Chaudhary opted not to give evidence. The court has been adjourned until Wednesday morning, where both parties will provide their closing statements.
