Real Madrid fans have blamed Carlo Ancelotti for depriving Andriy Lunin of the chance of winning a prestigious individual award.

The Ukrainian, who joined the 13-time European champions from Zorya Luhansk for £7.3million in 2020, has enjoyed a stellar season with Los Blancos, keeping nine clean sheets in 18 appearances so far.

With Madrid on course to regain the title they lost to Barcelona last season, Lunin's performance would normally make him a shoo-in for the Zamora Trophy.

Unlike the Premier League Golden Glove, which is presented to the goalkeeper who has kept the most clean sheets over the course of the season, the Zamora goes to the keeper with the lowest goals-to-games ratio.

But rules stipulate that for a keeper to be eligible he must play at least 28 league games, leaving Lunin two matches short of the criteria required to be considered.

Another added: 'All because Ancelotti thought giving Kepa minutes would be a good idea. Lunin from the start was so clear of Kepa. Shame he can't win it.'

Others echoed the feelings: 'I blame Ancelotti for playing Kepa so many games', one wrote with another adding: 'Ancelotti this is all your fault.'

Several other X users, meanwhile, suggested LaLiga ought to amend the rule and scrap the minimum number of games requirement.

'That’s a rubbish rule, scrap it,' one wrote,
