The Chicago Cubs have marred their own players' home opener introductions with one of the saddest pyrotechnics displays of all time before Monday night's game at Wrigley Field against the Rockies.
Viral footage on X shows infielders Christopher Morel (No. 5) and Dansby Swanson (No. 7) making their way up stadium steps and fireworks erupting as soon as they set foot onto a blue carpet leading to the field, where some of their teammates lined up along with coaches.
A fan in the background can even be heard saying 'why are we still trying' after being taken by surprise by the bursts.
