Olympic champion Tom Dean will not defend his 200metres freestyle title in Paris after finishing third in Sunday night’s British Swimming Championships.

Matt Richards, 21, won the highly-anticipated 200m freestyle final at the London Aquatics Centre in 1min 44.69sec to seal his spot in the event he won at last year’s World Championships.

Duncan Scott, who won an Olympic silver medal behind Dean three years ago, is also in prime position to be selected after coming second in 1:44.75.

But following his third-place finish in 1:45.09, Dean is now almost certain to be
