One of the UFC's most colourful characters, Jamahal Hill, will have the eyes of the world on him this Saturday night.

UFC 300, the tricentennial anniversary, is a landmark in the MMA (mixed martial arts) promotion's history and few would have predicted Hill to be one half of the main event against fearsome champion Alex Pereira.

The 32-year-old American is immensely talented inside the cage, of that there's no doubt, but of late it has been his life away from the cage that draws attention to him.

Hill juggles the demands of being a professional athlete at the top of his game with an incredibly busy family life.

He is a doting father to six children, ranging from five to 17 years old and regularly shares pictures of them on his Instagram, which has 354,000 followers. No doubt that number will rise with a big performance on the grandest of stages in Las Vegas this weekend.

Hill is understood to be in a relationship with Adaire Byerly who describes herself as a 'combat personality, analyst, podcast host and model' and the pair often post entertaining skit videos online.

The UFC star's brood are not exactly in awe of the success of their fighting father and he previously spoke about how they keep him humble.

'Honestly, they don't really care,' he said in an interview with the UFC.

'I tell other people all the time - I'll be out and everybody's like, "Oh, UFC," all this and that, and my kids are just like, "I want something to drink; can you get me some juice or something?" They bring me back to reality real quick.'

Hill, who became UFC champion by beating Glover Teixeira last January but had to relinquish the belt due to injury, takes the family approach to his training too, keeping a close-knit circle.

He explained: 'That's what it is - they got me here. I'm the type of person where I ain't looking for all these extra little fixes that's not there. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

'There's been guys that were doing well on our team, they left and now they can't catch a win to save their life.

'I'm gonna stick with the people that know me, that know what I like, that know what I like to do, and I know they have my best interests at heart. I feel like you grow with the people that know you.'

But unfortunately it was family at the heart of Hill hitting the headlines for unsavoury reasons last year.

In December he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his own brother and charged  with one count of misdemeanor aggravated domestic violence.

The alleged attack on his brother was so violent that he knocked out his sibling's tooth, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Mail Sport at the time.

The alleged victim, James Hill Jr., told officers at a Kentwood, Michigan hospital that Jamahal assaulted him on November 25.

The UFC fighter allegedly knocked down his brother twice – each time using only a single punch – and when the conflict was over, James was missing a tooth and had a 'very swollen' left eye.

According to court documents, officials allege that he assaulted his brother James Anthony Hill Jr and inflicted 'serious or aggravated injury upon him.'

At the time, Hill defended himself in a video, saying: 'I just can't wait for the truth to be told in court and I will wait for that
