The German club have been on the hunt for a new manager since revealing earlier this year that they would be moving on from Thomas Tuchel, and had been tipped to appoint Xabi Alonso. Alonso was the man that led the mission to dethrone Bayern for the first time in 12 years, securing the Bundesliga title on Sunday with Bayer Leverkusen, and the Spaniard has been tipped to join one of Europe's top teams soon. He however has revealed that he will be staying with Leverkusen for at least another year, causing the runners-up in waiting to look elsewhere to appoint Tuchel's successor. According to Sky Sports, the German's replacement is set to be Nagelsmann, who coached Bayern between 2021 and 2023 before taking over the Germany national team ahead of Euro 2024. He was sacked by Bayern a little over a year ago, in March 2023, during an international break with the club trailing Borussia Dortmund in the league table. Replaced by Tuchel, Nagelsmann's former coach at Augsburg, the former Chelsea man would go onto win the Bundesliga on the final day, though was sacked earlier this year with the Champions League the club's only hope for a trophy this season. Bayern had expected tough competition from Liverpool to appoint Alonso, but were left perhaps startled when their former midfielder revealed he would be staying at their new rivals. The club hierarchy are said to be sure that Nagelsmann is the right man to lead the overhaul, with Bayern sporting director Max Eberl reporting giving the green light for the appointment. Eberl joined Bayern this year, so did not play a part in the sacking of the German last year, with former CEO Oliver Khan and then-director Hasan Salihamidzic said to be behind the decision. It is reported that Bayern had wanted to take Sandro Wagner, one of Nagelsmann's coaches at Germany, to the club too, but the former striker is keen to stay with the national team. Nagelsmann, who coached Bayern between 2021 and 2023, is getting ready to lead Germany at this summer's European Championships Bayern are said to also be monitoring current Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi, who could depart at the end of the season According to reports, Bayern also hold Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi in high regard an are monitoring the Italian's situation. De Zerbi could leave Brighton at the end of the season and has spoken of his desire for his vision to line up with that of the club's hierarchy, and some of Europe's top clubs have been put on red alert. Liverpool have also been linked with the Seagulls boss, but Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is favourite to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
