One thing elite-level soccer players never struggle for is female attention.

The status - and societal power - that comes with playing for the biggest teams in the biggest leagues is a fast-pass to relationships that many men who watch them from the stands each week could only dream of.

It does however have players routinely questioning just how genuine their love connections are. Is the attraction truly to them, or is it the lifestyle they can provide?

Well, five players, a mix of current and retired, put that theory to the test in a 30-day challenge for Peacock's hit new show Love Undercover. No medals, no goals, no followers; just regular joes. Let the games begin.

'The price of fame is you give up your privacy,' Babel, who spent four years playing for Liverpool, says in episode one. 'For once I can be someone else, I won't be predictable.'

There is a giddy excitement among the guys that they can reinvent themselves over the course of a month… even if they all routinely seem to pick out music megastar Beyonce as their go-to type. Dial it a back a touch, gents.

Given dossiers to study so they are tuned up to memorise their cover stories - ad sales, construction and restaurant manager are some of their new trades - the quintet's transformation also includes ditching their luxury clothes and watches. It proves quite the adjustment to their regular lifestyles.
