Patriots offensive lineman Calvin Anderson revealed he nearly died last year after contracting malaria during a preseason trip to Nigeria.

Anderson traveled to the African country last summer with his wife Sheree before his temperature spiked massively the night of July 22 - when they were back home.

A thermometer showed his temperature to be an extremely dangerous 104.5 degrees, and his wife forced him to go to the hospital, they told the Boston Globe.

From there, doctors told the couple that Anderson had just a '50-50' chance to survive, as he also recounted in a video posted to his X account.

He did, though he began the season on the non-football illness list, and ultimately played just five games in 2023.

After recovering from malaria, he suffered a heart contusion from a hit to the chest in practice.
