Canada is getting in on the WNBA hype.
Toronto has been awarded a WNBA franchise - the first outside of the United States - to begin play in 2026, per multiple reports.
The new club, which would be the 14th team in the league, will be owned by billionaire Larry Tanenbaum's Kilmer Sports Inc.
Tanenbaum is a minority owner and chairman of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which owns several major franchises, including the Maple Leafs and the Raptors.
According to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, an official announcement will be made on May 23.

The team will be owned by Canadian billionaire Larry Tanenbaum's Kilmer Sports Inc.
The team will reportedly play at the Coca-Cola Coliseum, an 8,000-seat venue which currently hosts the AHL's Marlies and Toronto's PWHL franchise.
The city has already proved there's an appetite for women's basketball: the Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx played a preseason game at Scotiabank Arena to a 19,800-strong sold out crowd last year.
