Xander Schauffele was stunned into disbelief at the news of Scottie Scheffler's arrest amid a misfortunate morning at Valhalla Golf Club Friday.
Schauffele maintained his position at the top of the PGA Championship leaderboard to lead at the halfway point of the major after shooting a three-under 68 following a chaotic start to the second round.
World No. 1 Scheffler was forced to begin his second-round preparations from a jail cell Friday after he was arrested in a 'huge misunderstanding' at the gates of Valhalla.
The 27-year-old was pinned against a police car and arrested, before being charged with second-degree assault of an officer and having his mugshot taken.
Scheffler's legal woes came as he tried to access the course following the death of a PGA Championship vendor worker. John Mills died when he was hit by a bus on his way to work at 5am on Friday morning.

Schauffele, who didn't tee off until 2.38pm due to the delay of one hour and 20 minutes, opened up on the tragic accident and the events that unfolded.
'First off, the fatal accident is definitely the worst thing,' the overnight leader said following his second round. 'I'm sure Scottie would agree with that.
