Lyon have urged fans to take legal action after clashes with Paris Saint-Germain supporters ahead of the French Cup final on Saturday.

Clashes broke out on the motorway as fans made their way to the match at the  Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille.

Footage on social media showed two buses on fire by a motorway toll tooth at Fresnes-les-Montauban, near Arras, in northern France.

The incidents took place about 62 miles away from the Stade Pierre Mauroy.

Videos showed supporters surrounding buses, with flares thrown and windows reportedly being smashed.

The clashes reportedly involved  100 Lyon supporters and 200 PSG fans, according to police sources, as reported by AFP.

Around 20 supporters were injured in the clashes, while eight police officers were reportedly hurt.

French president Emmanuel Macron, who attended the final, condemned the violence.

'These are sporting events where you must above all be joyful and sporty,' Macron said.

'I condemn with the greatest firmness all violence.'

Northern region police prefect Bertrand Gaume confirmed 10 arrests had been made around the final, while noting there had been 'violent brawls' between the supporters travelling on the buses.

'[One] of the two teams (of supporters) was on time and arrived at the indicated location,' he said, as reported by RMC Sport.

'The other team arrived at the wrong place at bad timing and spotted the opposing supporters. They came out to attack them.
