Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint hope Marsha had her first gentle experience of the Del Mar circuit on Wednesday morning with her team determined not to leave her race on the training grounds.

The first runner at the meeting for trainer Sir Mark Prescott, who runs in the colours of the 10,000-strong Elite Racing Club, completed one circuit of the Del Mar dirt track hack cantering behind her lead pony in the hands of her big-race jockey Luke Morris.

Back in 1994 at Churchill Down, the outstanding Ian Balding sprinter Lochsong did a bullet work-out in the build-up the Dirt Sprint that had clockwatchers doubting whether she could reproduce it on race day.
