George Groves will have to prove his full fitness if he is to be allowed to defend his world super-middleweight title in the final of the World Super Series tournament this summer.
The parent company of the tournament, Cosmosa, are insisting that Saint George undergoes an independent medical assessment following Monday’s surgery on the left shoulder he dislocated in the final round of his semi-final victory over Chris Eubank Jr.
Groves has submitted an appeal for the final to be postponed from June 2 into July, by which time he is confident of full recovery.

Smith, honourably, has raised no objection, saying: ‘I am prepared to wait. I have always wanted to fight George. I am also keen for my first shot at a world title and George is the WBA champion.’
Cosmosa and promoter Kalle Sauerland are keen for Groves to take his place in the final, as well as to avoid another substitution following converted kick-boxer Nieky Holken’s replacement of flu
