Clarence Seedorf celebrated his 42nd birthday as Deportivo La Coruña coach at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday night but he did not get the present he most wanted – a win.

Deportivo were beaten 1-0 and so Seedorf is still without a victory after eight games in charge. His team are stuck in the bottom three and heading for relegation on a record breaking run of 15 matches without a win.

‘Our luck has to change at some point,’ Seedorf had said in the lead up to the game but this was not the time or the place against Diego Simeone's team and Deportivo are now eight points from safety with eight games left.
