Pep Guardiola has revealed he wrote to Bobby Robson to ask for the chance to play under him at Newcastle United, admitting it was a 'dream' to test himself in the Premier League.
Guardiola and Robson originally forged a bond during their time together at the Nou Camp, where the English manager spent a solitary season in charge between 1996-97 and made a huge impression on a number of the players.
So taken was the Spanish midfielder, that he wrote to Robson four years later to ask him if he had any space in his Newcastle United squad. Although he was rejected, Guardiola says he still thinks highly of the legendary coach.
