England Under 21s thrashed Qatar Under 21s 4-0 but missed out on the chance to top Group A as Rangers manager Steven Gerrard watched from the stands.

The Young Lions started brightly as Tammy Abraham nearly capitalised on Qatari goalkeeper Shehab Mamdouh's blunder after he quickly closed down a clearance but failed to convert the golden opportunity as it went out for a corner.

England's opening goal came soon after when Alhama Wende headed the ball into his own net giving Boothroyd's side a first-half lead.
