I’m buzzing. It’s Investec Derby day and I ‘Haz’ a genuine chance of getting in the shake-up and maybe even winning the great race for a third time, having picked up the ride on 8-1 shot Hazapour.
I’m riding for master trainer Dermot Weld, who has won big races around the globe and landed the 2016 Derby with Harzand, the uncle of Hazapour.
I also have the honour of wearing the colours of owner the Aga Khan, who has won the Derby five times thanks to Shergar (1981), Shahrastani (1986), Kahyasi (1988), Sinndar (2001) and Harzand.

I haven’t ridden for the Aga Khan since I won a Listed race at Deauville in 2006, and my first ride in his green-and-red silks was 30 years ago, when I was a 17-year-old apprentice with Luca Cumani.
The Aga Khan is steeped in Derby history and his stock have a reputation for improving and staying well. They are two big pluses for Hazapour, especially with the rain
