WhatsApp users have reported their messages are being deleted without warning.
The incident seems to be affecting Android phones and has reportedly hit both older and more recent messages.
WhatsApp users have taken to Twitter to vent their anger about the missing data.
It is thought that a bug could be causing the problem, although WhatsApp itself has not confirmed whether this is the case.
