A poll of youngsters aged 13-19 showed that 45 per cent think they will land their dream job by their 30th birthday. The figure is nearly three times what the average annual salary a 30-year-old currently earns, which is £23,700. On behalf of a financial services company, the poll showed that the top three choices are engineer, teacher and psychologist. Only one in 10 of the teens wanted to pursue modern paths, like becoming a blogger, Instagram star, video game developer and coder. More than two in five say that their parents would help them out with funds for some of their plans, like a down payment for a mortgage. 16 per cent of the teens want to have travelled the world, got married and have bought a home by the time they are 30. But the most desired careers for young people are actually still traditional ‘professions’ like engineer, teacher and psychologist Although they have high expectations when it comes to their future earnings, the research found that making good money came second to doing something they are passionate about. 48 per cent were focused on the money while 62 per cent showed that teenagers are taking other factors into consideration, such as being invested in their work. 'Many teens are expecting significantly higher than average salaries, which highlights the importance of helping them understand money,' said Steve Ferrari from One Family. 'Parents can do this by encouraging their children to get a part-time job, or suggesting they save up their pocket money to afford bigger expenses.'
