Instagram is updating its app to be more gender inclusive. Starting today, the firm is adding new gender options to its app, so that users can choose which term they most identify with
Users can edit their gender selection by tapping the 'Edit Profile' button on their account, then selecting 'Gender.'
There, they can choose from 'Female,' 'Male,' 'Prefer Not to Say' or 'Custom.'
After selecting Custom, they can type in a custom identity, such as 'Gender Non-conforming,' 'Non-binary,' 'Queer' or whatever term they identify with.
This information will not appear on users' public-facing Instagram profile.
