iPhone 13 backlash begins as fans claim the new smartphone has no major ...

Apple once again launched its latest smartphone to much fanfare yesterday, but it appears the new iPhone 13 has not gone down quite as well as the tech giant would have hoped.

Many 'iFans' took to social media to blast the latest model, saying it had no major improvements and lacked the innovation Apple is known for.

Others said late co-founder Steve Jobs would have been disappointed with the latest offering, adding that it 'did not do justice to his legacy'.

After months of anticipation, Apple finally revealed its new iPhone 13 during an annual product event hosted live from its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

It is available in a new pink colour — as had been rumoured in the lead-up to the launch — features an upgraded dual camera system, and has an increased battery life compared to the iPhone 12.

But outside of this, as well as a few other subtle changes to improve performance and the user experience, there is little else to shout about. It is not a completely redesigned smartphone by any stretch.

And it is this that some customers appear to have taken exception to, with many saying they were 'not impressed' and suggesting that Apple had 'lost its way'.

One Twitter user, Priyanka Sareen, wrote: 'Seriously where is the innovation that Apple is known for? Changing the camera's position?

'This is no justice to the legacy left by #SteveJobs'.

Nidhi Shankar added: 'Steve Jobs would have hated the iPhone 13. Just saying.'

Others on Twitter complained about the lack of innovation, while one user, Andre Munford, wrote: 'Not impressed with the iPhone 13.

'Apple has lost its way of creativity when Steve Jobs died and Johnny (sic) Ives [the firm's former chief design officer] left Apple.

'Apple is behind Android when it comes to phones.'

Another fan said the iPhone 13 was 'just an overclocked iPhone 12 with a camera upgrade!'

The backlash might come as somewhat of a surprise to Apple CEO Tim Cook, who said at the launch event that 'these are the best iPhones we've ever created', noting Apple's work to design the 'very best products and services to enrich people's lives.'

The 6.1-inch smartphone keeps the sleek design and ceramic front shield as its predecessor, but now boasts a diagonal camera lens design for the new dual system.

The camera system captures 47 per cent more light in a scene and includes the sensor shift stabilisation that helps counterbalance any movement within the camera to take focused shots.

One of the latest and many iPhone 13 rumours said the smartphone would launch in a new pink colour and that is what users can purchase — the new shade is also available for the iPhone 13 mini.

Customers can also purchase the iPhone 13 in blue, 'midnight,' 'starlight' and product red.

However, the largest upgrade is an increase in battery life: the iPhone 13 provides 2.5 more hours than the iPhone 12 and the iPhone mini gets 1.5 extra hours of power.

Apple hosted the event online for the second time since the coronavirus pandemic swept across the globe in 2020.

But the virus has not stopped the tech giant from sharing its latest and greatest products with the world.

Yesterday, Cook strode through a slickly produced video to launch the new iPhone, with few hints of the exceptional string of troubles facing his company including policy reversals, a spyware attack and legal fights.

From an empty, darkened auditorium, the company's CEO raved over upgraded cameras, brighter screens and new features for some of the Silicon Valley giant's other devices such as the iPad.

The new iPhone 13 is not a completely redesigned Apple smartphone, but includes subtle changes that improves performance and user experience.

Apple unveils a $329 iPad

Apple's event opened with the unveiling of a new iPad that is three times more powerful than a Chrome book and six times more powerful than an Android Tablet.

The iPad features the tech giant's new A13 Bionic Chip, giving it 20 percent faster performance than its predecessor with the A12 chip.
