WHAT YOUR DOG CAN LISTEN TO

By using a speaker along with one of the audiobooks, users can play one of a range of audible's audiobooks, with recommended titles including:

'The Art of Racing in The Rain' by Garth Stein. 'Winnie-the-Pooh' by A.A. Milne.  'The Wind in the Willows' by Kenneth Grahame. 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen. 'Born a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood' by Trevor Noah.  'A Dog's Purpose' by W. Bruce Cameron.

According to a demonstration video by Millan, having to be away from our dogs can be a stressful situation, joined by guilt and shame for having to be away from our pets for long periods of time, for example when going to work.

'The dog does get used to human talking, but when the human leaves, that's when he misses that tone, that's when he misses that conversation,' said Millan in a video about the audiobooks.

But recent studies have shown that dogs understand the tone and meaning of human voices.

So Millan teamed up with audible to conduct their own study to see what impact audiobooks have on dogs when their owners are away.

They recruited volunteers to see if they noticed a different in themselves and their dogs when using audible audiobooks, and the results showed that dogs exhibited positive behavior scores after the audiobooks were played.

According to Leslie, a Santa Clarita, California resident and one of the participants of the study, she had a positive experience with using the audiobooks with her dog Buddy.

'I would always feel guilty about leaving him alone, but with the audible book I felt like I was leaving him with a friend, so it gave me a great feeling of comfort to be able to do that and it relieves some of my guilt when I had to go out.'
