A family of five was kayaking near a Michigan Island when the boat capsized, killing a Wisconsin father and his three children. 

Erik Fryman, 39, was identified as the deceased father by the Ashland County Sheriff's Office. He was found on Thursday night along with two of his children in Lake Superior. The last child was found on Monday morning.

The only person to survive the near Madeline Island accident was his wife and mother of the children, 29-year-old Cari Mews.

The Loyal, Wisconsin, woman was rescued by a search and rescue vessel, Ashland authorities explained to WDIO.

'We had multiple assets on scene. We had a small boat station that launched out of Bayfield. Traverse city sent a helicopter over there,' United States Coast Guard Lieutenant Daniel Peters explained.

Rescue efforts began after the children's aunt called police and said that she received 'alarming text messages reading "911" and "Michigan Island"' from her sister.
