An 81-year-old woman who has dementia was hospitalised after she was allegedly punched and slapped by her 28-year-old carer.
Police were called to the elderly woman's home in Thirroul, south of Sydney at around 10.45pm on Friday, after they received a tip-off from a next door neighbour.

'It was the sustained verbal abuse that I could hear coming through the double brick masonry wall,' he said.
Officers went to the elderly woman's unit on Station Street and witnessed the alleged assault through a rear window, a NSW Police statement said.
Police said they saw the 81-year-old fall over as she was being led from the bathroom to the living room by her carer, who has since been identified as Alicia Gawronski.
Officers claimed they also overheard Gawronski verbally abuse the older woman before 'punching her with a closed fist to the inner thigh'.
