Revelers don captivatingly creative costumes and take to the streets for NYC's legendary Halloween parade Thousands descended on Sixth Avenue for the 45th Annual Village Halloween Parade on Wednesday evening The costumes ran the gamut from traditional to topical, proving New Yorkers are hardly lacking in imagination The most popular costume genre was related to the upcoming midterm elections as some impersonated President Donald and others reminded their fellow parade-goers to show up at the polls next week There was a significant security presence at this year's festivities as the NYPD vowed to prevent any violence like the truck attack that left eight dead on Halloween last year

Thousands of revelers flooded the streets for New York City's 45th Annual Village Halloween Parade, donning all kinds of carefully-crafted costumes that proved once again this city is hardly lacking in imagination.

The parade's unspoken theme appeared to be the upcoming midterm elections as a large number of participants made cheeky references to the American political landscape with their outfits.   

Highlights included a number of Donald impersonators, a 'Superwoman Squad' and any kind of clown you could think of, from cute to crazy to creepy.

Above the fray a group of glowing green statues danced in front of the illuminated New York City skyline.
