A pub chain charging £28 for two cauliflower steaks has faced backlash from customers over its attempt to cash in on the Veganuary trend.

Critics accused Young's of ripping off non-meat eaters after its January offer went viral online, prompting one social media user said only someone with Mad Cow Disease would pay for it.

The dish costs the same as two 6oz Aberdeen Angus sirloin steaks with triple cooked chips and watercress, with one punter branding the promotion 'properly mental'.

Vegan and vegetarians pay the same price for two roasted slices of cauliflower drizzled with oil and served with tomatoes, mushrooms, and mashed potato.
