Singer Erykah Badu was booed on stage and lambasted online after she defended rapper R Kelly at her concert on Saturday night.  

Speaking to a crowd at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom, Badu reportedly criticized the widespread outrage against the R&B singer in the wake of Lifetime's damning documentary Surviving R Kelly, which details decades of alleged sex abuse and misconduct. 

One attendee quoted Badu on Twitter as saying: 'What if one of the people who was assaulted by R Kelly becomes an offender? We gonna crucify them too?'

Another claimed that she told the audience to 'keep [their] opinion to [themselves]'.

Badu was approached to appear in the bombshell documentary but declined, as did many other artists, according to producers.  

While many of Kelly’s former collaborators, including Lady Gaga and Celine Dion, have denounced the singer over the allegations, social media evidence suggests Badu, a mother-of-three, is still a fan.
