Police are granted another 24 hours to quiz Polish butcher over Libby Squire

Police have been granted a 24 hour extension to question a Polish butcher about the disappearance of university student Libby Squire.

Humberside Police also confirmed that they are still treating the case as a missing person's enquiry.

The statement comes as police searched the home and the road outside Pawel Relowicz's, house in Hull this morning as efforts to find Libby, 21, reached day nine.

Previously, police had until 9pm this evening to charge the butcher, 24, over Miss Squire's disappearance.

Detectives said the force has received hundreds of calls since the 21-year-old University of Hull student (left and right)  was reported missing in the early hours of Friday 1st of February

A statement released by Humberside Police said: 'A further extension has been granted by the courts for officers to question a man arrested in connection with the disappearance of Hull student Libby Squire.

'The extension allows officers to continue to question the 24-year-old until 9pm tomorrow (Sunday, February 10).'

Detective Superintendent Mathew Hutchinson said: 'I can confirm that the court has granted us a further 24 hours to question the man.

'We are still treating Libby's disappearance as a missing person's enquiry. I have said previously that we are keeping an open mind as to her whereabouts and that is still very much the case.

'Our number one priority is to find Libby Squire and we are still conducting extensive searches and appealing for any information from the public.'

Two police cars were parked on Raglan Street on Saturday morning as students living in the area described the case as 'surreal and scary'.

Officers also continued to search the streets surrounding Miss Squire's house. She has been missing since January 31.

Police could be seen using sticks and cameras to search the back gardens of houses backing on to Oak Road Playing Fields which has been the focus of searches over the last week.

The news comes as a JustGiving page was launched to alleviate the financial costs of Libby's parents staying in Hull as the search continues for her daughter.

Lisa and Russ Squire are from High Wycombe and Craig Hopkins, a mature student at Hull University where Libby is enrolled, started the crowdfunding campaign to alleviate unneeded financial stress.
