Two New York City police officers shot responding to robbery

(Reuters) - Two New York City police officers were shot on Tuesday after they responded to an armed robbery, a New York City Police spokeswoman said.

Sergeant Jessica McRorie said she could not give out any further details about the incident, but local CBSNewYork reported that one had been pronounced dead at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center.

The station reported that the suspect, who was not immediately identified, had also been taken to a hospital suffering from gunshot wounds.

McRorie said police officials would provide more information at a Tuesday evening news conference.
