Police officers are struggling to fight knife crime because three quarters of them are regularly asked to patrol alone - it has been revealed.
After a survey was carried out by the Police Federation of England and Wales, the organisation's lead on operational policing, Sergeant Simon Kempton, said lone officers find it harder to deal with knife crime.
Sgt Kempton argued that everything from searching for knives, domestic violence reports or burglary patrols was being made trickier for Bobbies because of a lack of police funding.
'The worst-case scenario in terms of single crews is around safety — officer safety and by implication public safety,' he told the Times.
