A female student who was kidnapped by the father of her child after an alleged custody battle have both died following a dramatic shootout in Kentucky. Skylar Williams, a 20-year-old student from Ohio and her ex-boyfriend Ty’rell Pounds, 24, died after being fatally shot late Monday afternoon. Law enforcement said Williams was abducted at gunpoint from a parking lot at the Ohio State University campus in Mansfield by Pounds on Monday morning. In a statement, Kentucky police said they responded to a call about a 'distressed' female, understood to be Williams, being forced into a vehicle by Pounds at a gas station in Gallatin County on Monday. The caller stated that Williams was asking for help and that the vehicle then sped off traveling towards Interstate 71 Southbound with her inside. Police said that a car chase ensued southbound on Interstate 71 to Oldham County. Cops said they intervened when the vehicle exited the highway and ignored responding units. The car then stopped on a ramp shortly afterwards. A trooper then heard gunfire coming from the vehicle and returned fire, which resulted in the death of Pounds. Ohio State said that Williams was standing in a parking lot at the campus when she was approached by Pounds at 11.45am on Monday morning. The police statement read: 'After the vehicle came to rest on the ramp, the trooper attempted to apprehend the suspect. 'While attempting to apprehend the suspect the trooper heard a gunshot coming from within the vehicle which he perceived as an immediate deadly threat to himself and the female passenger. WDRB video shot at the scene showed shell casings scattered on the ground. There was a lot of damage to the cars involved, including a police cruiser with its side door bent backwards. According to court documents obtained by News 5, the couple shared a turbulent past, with Pounds filing for a restraining order against Williams in 2018. Records also show that Pounds filed a motion for visitation of their baby boy this week, but the ruling was never made. Williams graduated from Madison High School in 2016 and she was remembered as a talented young lady who had a bright future. Williams' former teacher Laurie Dean (left) claimed she wanted to become a hairstylist and Ohio State University President Michael Drake (right) said his thoughts were with her family Ty'rell Pounds posted a Facebook post shortly before abducting Williams where he claimed she kept him away from their baby and he didn't want him following 'my bad ways' Her former teacher Laurie Dean told News 5 that Williams wanted to become a hairstylist and was a pleasure to deal with. She claimed Williams was with Pounds when she was a student in the high school and other students had warned her to be weary of him. She revealed: 'She dated him in high school, and I can remember students telling her then, "You should not be with him," and if only she listened. She also had a warning for other women in similar relationships, saying: 'Pay attention to warning signs, and if a guy is abusive at all, walk away.' Madison High Principal Rob Peterson also said: 'It’s a very difficult situation to go through. The crime scene at Ohio State University's Mansfield Campus, around 80 miles south west of Cleveland 'It is typical of the Madison community to rally together and rally around each other.' Ohio State University President Michael Drake said their thoughts and prayers go to Williams' family. In a statement Drake said: 'Our Ohio State community suffered a tragic loss with the death of Mansfield student Skylar Williams. 'This senseless and shocking incident has left our campus shaken. We join Mansfield Dean Norman Jones in expressing our condolences and deepest sympathies.' He said additional counseling and consultation services were made available to members of the university community in need of support on our Mansfield campus.
