A firefighter who was brutally attacked by a black snake has shared an image of his gruesome wounds online.

Fire and Rescue NSW Deputy Commissioner Mal Connellan had headed out for a round of golf at the Riverside Oaks Golf Resort, northwest of Sydney, when he was subjected to the savage snake attack during the Australia Day weekend.

The black snake bit Mr Connellan at least three times, and left him with puncture wounds on his calf and suffering severe side-effects from the venom.

After the incident, Mr Connellan posted an image of the injuries (pictured) he had sustained to his social media page

While black snake bites aren't believed to be lethal, a person will need to seek urgent medical attention if bitten. 

After being bitten an excruciating three times, Mr Connellan suffered abdominal cramps nausea and back spasms.
