'Shell-shocked' woman describes her anguish after grinning yobs pelted her with ...

A vulnerable woman who was pelted with flour and eggs by a group of grinning teenagers as she cowered in fear on a park bench has spoken of her anguish for the first time today.

Speaking at Ipswich Youth Court, Janice Morris, 49, said the abuse had left her 'shell-shocked' as she recalled how the youths covered her with food and spat at her as she sat in a park in the Suffolk market town of Bury St Edmunds, in July 2018.

Five teenage boys admitted their role in the humiliation of Ms Morris at an earlier hearing, and a sixth boy, who confessed he 'thought it was funny...at the time', was found guilty of a public order offence on Wednesday.

Giving evidence at this week's trial, the schizophrenic and alcohol dependent victim - wearing tie-dye and sporting short black hair - looked visibly uneasy as she sat in the witness box flanked by a carer.

The 17-year-old boy, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was one of four boys who posed for a celebratory photo of the attack.

Ms Morris said: 'I don't know what I did to antagonise them. I wasn't anticipating it to happen. They got quite aggressive quite quickly. I was more shocked and surprised, I don't know exactly what I'm supposed to say.'

In a video interview played to the court, she told police she had a drink of whisky, 'not a lot', then went to sit on a bench near her home 'just to get out, to be outside... green space, trees'.
