A neighbour who desperately tried to save the life of a six-month-old baby boy who died from severe brain injuries has spoken of how she 'hasn't been the same' since.
Jie Smith, 28, from Newcastle on New South Wales' Central Coast, appeared in Wyong Court on Thursday charged with the boy's murder and reckless grievous bodily harm.
The baby, who died after sustaining severe head injuries while in his care, went into cardiac arrest at 4.30am on Saturday at a home in the suburb New Lambton.
The neighbour told https://twitter.com/7NewsSydney/status/1095956982589095943 she rushed to the aid of the small boy after Mr Smith rushed over seeking help.
'I don't even know these people,' the resident said, who has not been identified.
'I tried everything I could to help the little man - I'm so sorry.'
