A former truck driver who allegedly raped a teenage girl in 1997 could be responsible to killing four other women in Ohio and Illinois.  

Samuel Legg III, 49, was indicted Thursday in Mahoning County on aggravated murder and other charges for the slaying of a 43-year-old Sharon Kedzierski.

Her body had been discovered at a truck stop outside Youngstown in 1992.

Legg pleaded not guilty earlier Thursday in Medina County to two rape counts for the sexual assault of a 17-year-old girl.

According to the state Attorney General’s office, a DNA sample that linked Legg to the 1997 sexual assault matched with four other unsolved homicides, one of them Kedzierski’s.

Prosecutors used DNA testing to locate Legg, who is from Arizona, for the 1997 rape.

The victim, now 40, told authorities that she hitched a lift from her then home in Lexington, Ohio, to visit her boyfriend in Cleveland. 

She had accepted a ride from Legg at a gas station at the U.S. Route 224 exchange in Westfield Township on Interstate 71.
