A family of five from Washington states, including a toddler, had to be rescued this week after spending 28 hours trapped in deep snow after an ill-fated hike.

Peter Brown, 32, his wife, his brother, the brother’s girlfriend and their three-year-old daughter, Aryanna, on Monday parked their Toyota pickup truck at Dingford Creek trailhead in North Bend and hiked six miles to the Goldbyer Hot Springs area.

At 7.30pm that evening, the family headed back to their vehicle, planning to return home that night, but they never made it back.
