A young Maori woman has been left shocked after a prospective landlady sent her a list of 'racist rules' because of her ethnicity.

Reremai Cameron, a social work student at Waikato University in New Zealand, was searching for a new flatshare near to her campus in Tauranga, in the Bay of Plenty region, when the landlady allegedly 'blacklisted' her because of her cultural name.

In response to Ms Cameron's inquiry about renting a room, the landlady replied via text message with general information, and then asked: 'Just reading your name, are you Maori?'

Without bothering to wait for a reply the landlady then launched into a 'racist' rant on the types of behaviours she would not 'tolerate'.

'If so I hope you are aware the rent would only cover you and no friends or family to stay in the sleep out,' the text read.
