Brave mother speaks of horrors of abusive husband who threatened to 'take her ...

A terrified mother has spoken out about the extreme controlling violence that she was subjected to by her ex, after he tried to pour bleach over her 'intimate area'.

Kelly Watkins was constantly subjected to beatings, choking and daily death threats by her husband Keiron who had threatened to 'take off her jaw'.

The 25-year-old mother finally found the courage to dial 999 after her husband purchased a sledgehammer and bolt cutters from B&Q which he said he would use to cut off her jaw, telling her that doctors would have to 'wire it up so you won't be able to speak'.

The terrified mother from Norwich said she knew if she set foot in the house that day that she may not come out alive.

The 999 call is heard on The Abused, a Channel 5 documentary which is airing this evening at 10pm.

Speaking to the Sun Online Kelly said that her 30-year-old husband always threatened that if she went to the police she would be dead before they arrived to help.

She said: 'I'd been too scared to call them before.

'You don't dare talk about it for fear. It's not just fear of the beatings, but what if they don't believe it?'

Just 11 weeks before the trip to B&Q where Keiron had purchased the items, police had responded to an anonymous tip off and found Kelly with a bruised and battered face.

Despite this she denied being attacked and said she had bumped her head herself, when in fact he had punched her and strangled her to the point of blackout, as well as telling her he was going to kill her, in front of her two-year-old son Reggie.

Kelly said: 'He just kept punching me in the face. I had Reggie in my arms and I put him down and then he strangled me and I kept looking at my little boy.

'Then he let go. He called his brother to come and get Reggie so I could dig myself a grave.

'But I still lied to the police and took him back. I didn't have the courage to speak up and say what he'd done. I thought they would take my little boy away.'

Unfortunately, Kelly's story is all too familiar for police dealing with domestic abuse on a daily basis. In the UK, two women a week are killed by their partners, while two million people are thought to be living with domestic abuse.

Kelly met Keiron when she was 19-years-old and knew he had already been in prison for previous offences.

She said she fell head over heels from the start of the relationship but highlighted that it wasn't long before Keiron became controlling.

'I wasn't allowed to talk to my friends. I couldn't wear certain things because he'd accuse me of sleeping with people.

'He called me a whore, a slag, no good to no one. I had no confidence at all.'

Throughout their marriage Keiron was in and out of prison for offences including dangerous driving.

The couple tied the knot while Keiron was still locked up in 2014. Their son Reggie was born in 2016, and Keiron was soon locked up again.

However, while he was in prison, Kelly found out that he had been unfaithful during the relationship.

Kelly ended the marriage before having a short relationship with another man. However, in November 2017 Keiron was released from prison and moved back into the family home.

'Within the first two weeks he'd attacked me three times. It would be strangling, hitting my head against a wall, that kind of thing. I tried to throw him out but he refused to
