Fundraiser to find man who disappeared in Townsville floods raises nearly ...

A fundraiser to find a recently married man who disappeared in the horrific Townsville floods has reached almost $90,000 as his family tries to desperately locate him.

Justin Scott was thrown off a boat on the Burdekin River, south of Townsville about 5.30pm on February 8.

Water police, swift water rescue crews, a helicopter and other local vessels searched for the missing 35-year-old.

On Valentine's Day, after no luck finding Mr Scott, his family launched a fundraiser to help find him.

Within eight days, the fundraiser made $89,162 - nearly nine times the original goal of $10,000.

'Money raised will go towards putting a helicopter in the air, and also to support those who are in need of resources such as boat fuel, food and other search supplies,' the GoFundMe read.

On Monday, Townsville Tactical Services Inspector Sean Dugger said the mission to find the recently married man was ongoing but search efforts are being scaled back.

'The search and rescue is ongoing and still ongoing however resources, have at this time, scaled back,' he told The Townsville Bulletin.

'We have our search and rescue Water Police officers and additional vessels, and members of the community who have been assisting with the search.

'Previously over the weekend we have had SES, VMR (Burdekin) and there have been fixed wing and QG Air (helicopter) assets.'
