China has responded to reports of an indefinite ban on Australian coal imports by mocking concerns over the decision and saying it's 'normal practice'.
A major Chinese port has reportedly banned imports of Australian coal amid tensions between the two nations over cyber-security and control in the Pacific.
In addition to the ban, customs at China's northern Dalian port will cap overall 2019 imports through its harbours at 12 million tonnes.
China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said customs assesses the quality of imported coal, analyses possible risks and examines it in accordance to laws and regulations, ABC reported.
