A conservative activist who was assaulted on the University of California-Berkeley campus has spoken out. 

Hayden Williams spoke with Fox News' on Thursday night, still sporting a black eye from the violent attack that occurred while he was recruiting for Turning Point USA on Tuesday.

Williams said that he at the recruiting table speaking with a Berkeley student who expressed interest in the group, when two men stormed up behaving 'erratically' and began swearing. 

He said that the attacker expressed outrage over a sign at the table that read 'hate crime hoaxes hurt real victims,' a reference to allegations that actor Jussie Smollett staged a racist and homophobic attack against himself in Chicago. 

'This person said we were promoting violence on campus and proceeded to take his aggression out on us,' Williams said of the attacker.

The conservative activist said he had witnesses who would verify that he did nothing to instigate the attack, and that he began filming within seconds of being approached by the attacker. 

The video shows the man who attacked Williams shouting: 'Mother f**ker. You racist little inbred b***h. C**t!'  

At one point, he also threatened to 'shoot' Williams.

Williams said that as the attack unfolded, a number of people simply stood by and watched.

'Some students nearby tabling were laughing, even one guy was smiling while I was being attacked and trying to hand me his flyer as a joke,' he told Campus Reform.
