Disgraced NRL star Todd Carney says he is afraid to use public toilets nearly five years on from the infamous urinal photograph.

The notorious image of Carney appearing to urinate in his own mouth made the rounds on social media in 2014, costing the former Dally M medalist his job.

Nearly five years have passed, with Carney making strides to get his career back on track by inking a deal to coach and captain the Byron Bay Red Devils last November. 

But he says he is still haunted by the mistakes of his past, bemused that people still seek him out to mock him over the photo.
