Two men have been arrested over the late-night shooting that left a former police detective fighting for life.

The suspects, both from Melbourne's southwestern suburb of Point Cook, were arrested on Saturday morning.

The arrests come after 53-year-old Sid Morgan, former detective turned real estate agent, was allegedly shot in the forehead and left to bleed in the middle of the street on Friday night.
