Alleged fraudster Mark Acklom, 46, has been hauled back to the UK to be put before the courts
One of Britain's most wanted fugitives has appeared in court charged with fraud and money laundering after he was extradited to the UK from Switzerland.
Mark Acklom, 45, is accused of promising to marry Carolyn Woods, 58, before swindling her out of almost £850,000 in life savings as he pretended to be an MI6 agent.
He faces 20 charges but entered no plea when he appeared for a five-minute hearing at Bristol Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.
Acklom, who wore a grey hoodie, a white t-shirt and blue jeans, was remanded in custody until March 25 when he will appear at Bristol Crown Court.
Acklom had a tanned complexion, short dark hair, a dark beard and glasses.
Acklom, who was born in Lambeth, London, faces eight charges of fraud by false representation and 12 charges of converting or removing criminal property.
