'Almost deceased estate': Sydney man posts humorous listing for his waterfront Sydney property after getting some bad news from his doctor A waterfront property's auction listing has turned heads with its grim headline Seller Pieter Hoekstra, 63, had received some bad news from his cardiologist When advertising the land, he attached the headline 'almost deceased estate' By Alex Chapman For Daily Mail Australia Published: 22:59 GMT, 23 February 2019 | Updated: 22:59 GMT, 23 February 2019 Viewcomments A semi-retired man has turned heads with a grim and self-deprecating house listing. Sydney man Pieter Hoekstra advertised his waterfront plot of land on Sydney's northern beaches for auction on the same day he had visited his doctor. Unfortunately for the 63-year-old homeowner, his cardiologist had given him some bad news. So, with the knowledge he wouldn't be needing the property during a lengthy stint in hospital, he cracked a joke with his real estate agent that eventually found itself headlining the listing. A waterfront property's (pictured in yellow marking) auction listing has turned some heads The seller of the property got some bad news from his cardiologist and listed the estate as 'nearly deceased' In bold letters accompanying a picture of the property, the listing in Mr Hoekstra's local paper reads: 'Almost deceased estate, must be sold.' He said he told the real estate agent he needed to hurry after receiving the undisclosed diagnosis, leading to a listing the realtor said he'd always wanted to use. 'Some thought it was disrespectful,' Lachlan Elder of LJ Hooker Mona Vale told realestate.com.au. 'But we all die.' Mr Hoekstra agreed, saying the joke was all about the timing. The plot of land looks over the water in the Northern Beaches (pictured) and could fetch more than $800,000 Hoping to travel through Europe after he has recovered in hospital, Mr Hoekstra advertised the land for auction, where it could fetch more than $800,000. He bought a pair of neighbouring properties in the area in 1985, selling a derelict shanty in December for $1.15 million. 'I fell in love with the rainforest,' he said. That listing also saw itself headlined by a joke, with Mr Hoekstra saying the cockroach infested shack was 'not fit for pigs'. His 710 square metre block will go to auction on March 16, with a guide price of $830,000 attached.
