Winner of $40M Powerball jackpot revealed to be father from South Australia

A South Australian father has been revealed to be the lucky winner of the $40million Powerball jackpot on Thursday. 

The man's 25-game marked entry was the only Division One winner in the 1189 draw with winning numbers 7, 5, 13, 4, 2, 14, 11, and Powerball number 14.

The winner, who wished to remain anonymous, has recalled the remarkable moment he realised he had become a multi-millionaire.

'I was just sitting at home last night and for something to do I thought I would check my Powerball ticket,' he said on Friday. 

'I checked the numbers and recognised that a few of them were mine, so I double checked them again.

'I showed my wife and she said, "this can't be true, something must be wrong here." We didn't believe it until the news was confirmed this morning.

'We are over-the-moon!'

About one-third of Australians are estimated to have bought a ticket to try their luck and nearly 6,000 tickets per minute were sold in the lead-up to the draw.

Players are required to choose seven numbers ranging from 1 to 35 and an additional number ranging from 1 to 20 for the Powerball. 

Each number has an equal chance of being drawn, however, players were quick to point out the incredibly low sequence of the winning numbers which all fell between 2 and 14. 

The winner, who purchased his ticket on OzLotteries.com, revealed he based his selections on his family members' birth dates after he stopped buying his usual QuickPicks, which
