A badly injured grey seal had to be rescued after it mysteriously ended up trapped on a ten foot high Second World War pillbox on a beach.

The seal was trapped on the concrete machine gun post for 24 hours before being spotted by a worried passerby who phoned the RSPCA.

The incident happened at Fraisthorpe Beach, East Riding of Yorkshire, on Tuesday.
