A bus transporting members of a soccer club crashed in the Dominican Republic, leaving five Haitians dead and more than 50 people injured.
The vehicle, which was carrying about 60 passengers, was on its way to the province of Monseñor Noel when it flipped over near a popular shrine of the Virgin Mary located in the town of El Puerto in Jarabacoa on Sunday night.
According to Dominicans newspaper El Nacional, the bus driver was traveling at a high speed when one of the passengers asked if he could slow down before the fatal crash.
Jacqueline Polonia, the director for the Civil Defense department in La Vega, said the five dead passengers were members of Sporting Football Club, according to Dominican news outlet Diario Libre. It’s unknown if the victims were all players.
