Officer Greg Wertman, 35, remains hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by a civilian vehicle as he pursued the suspect in Boynton Beach, Florida on Wednesday. Suspect Ryan Lamar Moody, 24, was apprehended a short time later by other officers. 'This incident is another example of how dangerous the policing profession is,' Boynton Beach Police Chief Michael Gregoy said on Monday, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The officer was chasing Ryan Lamar Moody, 24, (left) who was later arrested along with his alleged accomplice Elyshia M. Congress Avenue. Store employees said they spotted Moody and an alleged accomplice, 23-year-old Elyshia M. Wilson, stealing $1,200 worth of baby products. When Moody saw police detaining Wilson, he made a break for it, according to the police report. In the commotion, Wilson also escaped and fled as cops focused on capturing Moody, police said. Moody was apprehended after a chase and Wilson surrendered to police the following day. The woman who struck Wertman in her SUV was 'very shaken up,' the police chief said. She is unlikely to be charged with a crime, he said. Wilson was charged with grand theft and remains behind bars at the Palm Beach County Detention Center pending bail of $25,000. Moody was charged with grand theft and resisting arrest. He posted bail of $3,000 and was released on Thursday. Booking records show that Moody was arrested again on Friday in Palm Springs where he was charged with shoplifting.
